Senator Fuschillo Holds Community Meeting To Help Massapequa Park Seniors Save On Their Prescription Drug Costs

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

To help senior citizens save money on their prescription drug costs, Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently held an informational community meeting with Assemblyman Joseph Saladino (12th Assembly District) at Massapequa Park Village Hall to provide information about New York State’s Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program. A representative from the EPIC program was on hand to explain how the program works and answer questions from the audience.

"Many seniors have questions about the upcoming changes to prescription drug plans being made by the federal government and how it will affect the EPIC program. By giving seniors the opportunity to speak directly with an EPIC representative, they were able to learn about the program and have their questions answered, which will help them decide whether they qualify for EPIC and whether it is beneficial for them to enroll," stated Senator Fuschillo, a member of the Senate’s Health Committee.

The EPIC program is a New York State sponsored prescription plan that helps eligible senior citizens reduce their drug costs. It is open to New York State residents ages 65 or older who have an annual income of $35,000 or less if single, or $50,000 or less if married. The plan covers almost all prescription medicines, both brand name and generic, as well as insulin, insulin syringes and needles. According to the New York State Department of Health, over 340,000 seniors already belong to the program.

Residents who would like more information about the EPIC program or wish to obtain an application can call the state’s EPIC hotline at 1-800-332-3742 (TTY 1-800-290-9138) or Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-546-4100.

In addition, Senator Fuschillo has created a section on his website to enable seniors to access this information over the internet. The section contains links to additional information posted on the websites of the EPIC program, Medicare and Social Security, as well as phone numbers that seniors can call to receive more information from these agencies.
