Senator Fuschillo Joined By State And County Officials In Securing Funds For Downtown Revitalization Project Along Merrick Avenue
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt (17th Assembly District), and Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg (19th Legislative District) today announced a new downtown revitalization project along Merrick Avenue between Camp Avenue and Horatio Street.
The project will be financed through $800,000 in state funds, secured by Senator Fuschillo, and $50,000 in County monies.
"The benefits of this project are twofold," said Senator Fuschillo, a member of the Senate’s Commerce, Economic Development, and Small Business Committee. "It will beautify the area for local residents and continue the improvements already made along the southern part of Merrick Avenue in downtown Merrick, which will be of great benefit to our local businesses."
"Downtown revitalization projects give communities an opportunity to enhance their surroundings, which will benefit both homeowners and local merchants," stated Assemblyman McKevitt.
As part of the revitalization project, new sidewalks, brick pavers, curbing and decorative lighting will be installed along the east and west sides of Merrick Avenue between Camp Avenue and Horatio Street.
According to the Nassau County Department of Public Works, the project will be entering the design phase this fall. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin next spring/summer.
