Senator Fuschillo Reminds Nassau County Residents To File Star Applications Before The End Of The Year
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is reminding all Nassau County residents that the deadline to apply for school tax savings under New York State’s STAR program is January 2, 2007 in Nassau County.
"Homeowners can save hundreds of dollars in school taxes through New York State’s STAR program," said Senator Fuschillo. "I urge anyone who has not signed up to receive these savings to file an application before the January 2nd deadline."
The STAR program works in two parts:
- Basic STAR is available to all New Yorkers who own and live in their own home, condominium, or cooperative apartment, regardless of income level or age.
- Enhanced STAR is available to senior citizen (aged 65 and older) property owners whose annual adjusted gross income level is under $67,850. If the property is owned by a husband and wife, or by siblings, only one of them must be at least 65 years old to qualify for this exemption.
Residents who already receive the Basic STAR exemption or who participate in the Enhanced STAR Income Verification Program do not need to refile.
Applications for the Basic or Enhanced STAR program can be obtained by calling Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-546-4100, and additional information on the STAR program can be found by CLICKING HERE. STAR applications and information about other tax exemptions can also be obtained by contacting the Nassau County Department of Assessment at 571-1500, or visiting their office at 240 Old Country Road in Mineola. Applications must be filed before January 2, 2007.
