Senator Fuschillo Secures Grant Funding For Defibrillators At Lindenhurst Library

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) has secured $5,000 grant funding for the Lindenhurst Memorial Library. The Library used the grant funds to purchase an Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and necessary support supplies.

An AED is a lightweight, portable device that is designed to provide an electric shock to the heart to help it return to its normal rhythm during cardiac arrest. According to the American Heart Association, a cardiac arrest victim’s chances of survival decreases 7-10% for every minute that passes without a normal heartbeat being restored.

"With nearly 1,000 people visiting the Lindenhurst Memorial Library each day, the library is one of the most consistently active locations in the community. Having an automatic external defibrillator and trained personnel on site is a logical expectation in this time of heightened awareness of the need for immediate response in the event of a cardiac emergency. Thanks to a grant from Senator Fuschillo the library now has this life saving capability," Library Director Christine Salita stated.

"Having a defibrillator on site allows trained personnel to immediately administer lifesaving treatment in the event that someone goes into cardiac arrest. This saves precious time that could ultimately mean the difference between life and tragedy. The Library will now have these lifesaving devices in place in the event of an emergency," said Senator Fuschillo.
