Senator Fuschillo Secures State Funding To Aid Victims Of Domestic Violence

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) announced today that he secured a $30,000 state grant to help fund support programs for victims of domestic violence. The programs, which are administered by the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, provide counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy services to domestic violence victims and their children.

"Domestic violence and sexual abuse are horrific crimes that can leave victims with long lasting emotional scars. It is vitally important that resources be available to those who are in need of help. The valuable services offered by the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence ensure that victims have a place where they can get help at anytime of the day or night," said Senator Fuschillo.

"This grant enables us to maintain critically important programs," said Sandy Oliva, the Coalition's Executive Director. "Several sources of funding were lost this year, and our concern was that we'd be unable to sustain all the services that victims of domestic violence need. This appropriation helps us to better serve the women and children who come to us, and to keep working towards the prevention of domestic abuse."

The Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence is a nonprofit organization that offers information and services to victims of domestic violence, violence in dating relationships, elderly abuse, and children who witness family violence or sexual assaults. The Coalition operates two hotlines that offer confidential assistance to victims 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

- Domestic/Dating Violence Hotline: 516-542-0404

- Rape/Sexual Assault Hotline: 516-222-2293

More information about the programs and services offered by the Coalition can be obtained by calling 516-572-0700 or visiting their website at www.cadvnc.org.
