Senator Volker Secures $50,000 For The Gorham Free Library
(ALBANY, N.Y.) Senator Dale M. Volker (R-C-I, Depew) announced today that he has secured $50,000 for the Gorham Free Library within the adopted 2006-2007 New York State Budget. These state funds will be utilized by the Gorham Free Library to create "The Children’s Room Program."
"The Gorham Free Library is a significant public asset to the Gorham community and is used by young and old alike," said Senator Dale M. Volker. "From normal functions of lending books and other materials, the Gorham Free Library is committed to serving as a lifelong center for learning. The Gorham Free Library’s commitment to instilling the love of reading, especially during our formative years, is one I fully support. The establishment of "The Children’s Room Project" would firmly establish the importance of reading in our young people and have a profound impact in the future of our children. It goes without saying that the Gorham Free Library is a benefit to the entire community and I was pleased to have secured funding to help establish "The Children’s Room Program."
Andrea Tillinghast, Director of the Gorham Free Library said, "Our community and our patrons are very proud and supportive of our Library. This $50,000 state grant secured by Senator Volker will allow us move expeditiously to create an area where our children can improve their reading capabilities; thereby enhancing their success during the critical formative years. It will also encourage children to read together with their families. The Gorham Free Library is extremely grateful to our dedicated staff and our supportive patrons for their strong commitment to our Library, and we look forward to opening of "The Children’s Room Project".
"The Children’s Room Project" at the Gorham Free Library is a project involving the formation of an area within the Library solely for the edification of children under the age of 12. The project involves the adaptation of an existing space within the library.
