Senator Valesky Applauds Signing Of Eminent Domain Bill

David J. Valesky

After weeks of urging the Governor to sign the Eminent Domain bill, which would restrict the New York Regional Interconnect’s efforts, Sen. David Valesky (D-Oneida) attended the ceremony in which it became law.

"The people of Madison County worked very hard to get this law passed, and I was pleased to be a part of that process," said Sen. Valesky. "Now I call on NYRI to finally listen to the people of Upstate New York and do the right thing by withdrawing this ill-conceived proposal."

The law passed the Senate and Assembly in response to the New York Regional Interconnect plan to build a high voltage power transmission lines from Oneida County to Orange County, cutting through countless Upstate communities.

Sen. Valesky twice sent letters to the Governor urging him to sign the bill, and wrote several columns in local newspapers asking Madison County residents to do the same.
"This is a victory for the people of Upstate New York, and hopefully marks the end of this proposal," said Sen. Valesky.
