Skelos Announces Confirmation Of Hewlett Harbor Resident Denise L. Sher As State Court Of Claims Judge

New York State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) today announced that, on June 20, 2006, the New York State Senate confirmed the nomination of Hewlett Harbor resident Denise L. Sher as Judge of the New York State Court of Claims. Prior to her confirmation, Judge Sher was the Supervising Judge of the Nassau County District Court.

"I am very proud of Judge Sher for being appointed to the New York State Court of Claims," said Senator Skelos. "The Court of Claims is one of our most important judicial positions and Denise’s experience and understanding of the law will be a great asset to the people of New York State."

Judge Denise Sher received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Queens College where she was a Phi Beta Kappa, Suma Cum Laude and honored in "Who’s Who in American Colleges and University." She earned her Juris Doctor from Hofstra University Law School and was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1978. Judge Sher has been a Nassau County District Court Judge since 1995, President of the Board of Judges since 2001 and Supervising Judge since the beginning of this year. Before becoming a judge, Judge Sher was a member of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Law Department, Attorney for the Town of Hempstead and had her own law practice. Her husband, Robert, is a managing partner for John Hancock Financial Network.

Judge Denise Sher is very active within Hewlett Harbor, as well as the other communities of the Five Towns area and Nassau County. Judge Sher is also active within the state and local legal community and has been published in the Trader Newspaper, Nassau Lawyer and the New York Law Journal.
