Hempstead will build a boardwalk at the Lido Nature Preserve. The Lido Nature Preserve is a 40-acre marshland on Middle Bay in the South Shore Estuary Reserve created and funded by Senator Skelos, in conjunction with the Town of Hempstead.
“Through the state’s continued investment and a tremendous partnership between the state and the Town of Hempstead, the Lido Nature Preserve has become an environmental treasure for Long Island nature enthusiasts, students and families,” said Senator Dean G. Skelos (R-Rockville Centre).
Under an agreement with the state, the Town of Hempstead will design and construct a 900 linear foot boardwalk, extending from an existing trail and terminating in an 80' x 70' railed platform, in the Lido Nature Preserve, a 40 acre marshland on Middle Bay in the South Shore Estuary Reserve. This project will also include installation of web-based cameras, interpretive signage, and observation binoculars along the boardwalk and platform.
In addition, Senator Skelos announced a $188,217 state grant to expand the Inwood Marina, located on eastern Jamaica Bay, by adding 62 slips. The Town will also examine the feasibility of construction of a 150-foot breakwater across the western end of the marina.
