State Lawmakers, Arc Officials Announce New State Funding

Bath, N.Y.-- New York State Senator George H. Winner, Jr. (R-C, Elmira), State Assemblyman Jim Bacalles (R-C, Corning) and Steuben Arc officialshave announced $150,000 in new state funding to support the organization’s ongoing "Together We Soar" renovation and construction project.

The state lawmakers said that the state funding, which they secured through the Community Capital Assistance Program in the 2006-07 state budget, will assist Steuben Arc with the construction of a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified building adjacent to its Bath Industrial Park facility, as well as with renovations to the existing facility. The new building, once completed, will become Steuben Arc’s administration and training facility. Steuben Arc’s existing administration wing will become a new Health Clinic.

"We are grateful for the assistance of Senator Winner and Assemblyman Bacalles, who were instrumental in helping us acquire state funding," said Bernie Burns, Steuben Arc’s executive director. "This project is an important piece of our ongoing plan of growth. We continue to offer excellence in our services while building a new infrastructure for future success."

Senator Winner and I wanted to be part of this project and help Steuben Arc continue its tradition of delivering a quality program for its clients."

According to Arc officials, the new LEED-certified building, which is expected to be completed by December 2007, will help the organization realize significant long-term costs savings through energy efficiency savings, indoor environmental quality enhancements and the additional benefits of sustainable site development.

Steuben Arc is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1964 by a group of local parents advocating for the education of their children, which serves adults and children with developmental and other disabilities. Arc services are available to Steuben County residents, while the organization’s crisis intervention and prevention services encompass seven regional counties. Services provided include: service coordination; crisis intervention and prevention; community supports; residential; vocational; transportation; clinic; and respite programs.
