Senator Farley Offers Amsterdam Office For Relief Effort

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) offered his Amsterdam District Office at 2430 Riverfront Center as a drop-off point for the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce's relief effort. The Chamber is collecting nonperishable food, flashlights and batteries for Montgomery County flood victims.

"This is the least we can do," Senator Farley said, "to help our neighbors and friends in Montgomery County restore their daily lives. I've also contacted Governor Pataki about expediting aid to this region." The Governor just announced a State Disaster Program that will supplement any federal assistance.

Senator Farley will be meeting Senators Schumer and Clinton, as well as Congressman McNulty and Assemblyman Tonko in Canajoharie today at 3:45 p.m. to discuss the flood damage and view the affected region.

Senator Farley noted that his office has already received a bag full of canned items for the relief effort. The District Office staff will collect items and turn them over to Montgomery County Chamber President Deborah Auspelmyer who is currently working out of the Amsterdam City Annex building. Senator Farley's District Office and the Chamber's offices will be closed during the long Independence Day holiday but both will re-open on Wednesday at 9 a.m. for regular business hours. From Wednesday on, the Senator's staff will be able to collect items during the weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Senator Farley's offices collected items during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays last year for local food pantries.
