Senator Alesi To Sponsor 17th Annual Health And Fitness Fair

Senator Jim Alesi (R/C-Perinton), continuing his efforts to bring free health services to local residents, will be hosting his 17th annual Family Health and Fitness Fair this year. The event will take place on Thursday, October 5th at the Dome Center in Henrietta, and is open to the public between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Parking and admission for the health fair will be free of charge.

Attendees of the health fair will find a wide variety of free services offered by area health providers. In addition to screenings and testings for high blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, skin cancer, glaucoma, and vision and hearing, the health fair will provide individuals with a mini-bone density scan for osteoporosis, a foot evaluation, a mini-stress test to challenge strength, balance and flexibility, and much more.

Seminar Room 1

11:00-11:50 Urinary Incontinence: The Myth and the Truth. Urinary incontinence is a common problem that most people don't talk about. You will learn the anatomy and functions of the GU tract, as well as the types of incontinence with common treatments. Presenter: Beth Schempp, RN, BSN,CWOCN, Visiting Nurse Services.

12:00-12:50 Medicare 101: The ABC's and D of Medicare. Presenter: Ron Brandweir, HIICAP Coordinator.

1:00- 1:50 Optimal Health with Chiropractic: Maintain the health of your spine and nervous system naturally, with chiropractic. Presenter: Dr. Sarah Stacer, Advanced Family Chiropractic.

2:00- 2:50 Your Aging Bones: Preventing Fractures. We will discuss basic bone health and how to prevent fractures. You will also learn what to do if you fall or may have suffered a fracture. 11:00-11:50 Veteran's Administration Benefits: Information you can use on the VA geriatric progrrams and information about the enrollment process. Presenter: Nina Mottern, RN, GEC Care Coordinator.

12:00-12:50 Healthy Eating: This class explains how to make practical changes in eating to improve one's health. You will learn what to eat to lower cholesterol, strengthen bones, reduce arthritic pain, and prevent diabetes. Practice in label reading will be covered. Presenter: Jane Braband, RD, CDN, Registered Dietician with Lifetime Care.

1:00- 1:50 First Aid, Breathing and Cardiac Emergencies: An informational presentation covering the basics of caring for an injured or ill person until medical help arrives. Topics include how to recognize a life-threatening emergency; what to do if someone is having difficulty breathing; concious choking; signs and symptoms of a heart attack or stroke; and what to do for common household injuries. You will see demonstrations of Adult CPR and an AED, and steps for bleeding control. The presenter will be a Red Cross certified FA/CPR/AEd instructor. Sponsored by: American Red Cross. 2:00- 2:50 Navigating the Maze of Senior Living Options: Are you confused by the different senior living choices out there? Our discussion will provide information and answers to questions related to the complex issues you may be facing in ""Navigating the Maze.""
