Seward Comments On Governor's Vetoes
State Senator James L. Seward commented on the governor's vetoes of the legislature's on-time budget:
"I disagree with the governor about his vetoes of our 'families first' budget. It's my view the tax cuts and restorations in the budget are constitutional and are in the best interests of the people of our area.
"People are sick of focusing on technicalities, posturing and legal battles. People want results from their government, and our on-time budget provided just that.
"The governor has forecasted deficits every year and he has always been wrong. Three years ago the governor vetoed parts of the budget and we overrode him 120 times. The governor warned then of bankrupting the state. He was wrong then and he is wrong now. We've had record surpluses.
"Our on-time budget that put families first included $4.1 billion in tax cuts -- including the first ever direct property tax break along with tax breaks for married couples and those with children.
"My goal is to help the hardworking, overburdened taxpayers of this state and I will do everything within my power to deliver genuine tax relief. "
