John J. Bonacic

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that he is seeking nominees for the New York State Senate Achiever's Award.

"I invite local residents to nominate friends, coworkers, and neighbors who have overcome challenging physical or mental disabilities and work for the betterment of our communities," stated Senator Bonacic.

Senator Bonacic said that this year marks the 26th Anniversary of the Senate Disabilities Awareness Day where the Senate will once again honor individuals who have made a difference in their communities in spite of physical or mental challenges. Honorees will be invited to attend a day-long event scheduled for May 23rd in Albany.

A full program is being planned for that day, including a technology fair, featuring high-tech vendor displays beginning at 10:00 a.m, and awards ceremony at 11:00 a.m., a special luncheon for award recipients, and recognition of award winners during the regular Senate Session at 3:00 p.m.

"There are remarkable people in our midst whose lives, work, or special achievements make our communities better, make our families stronger, and serve as special examples to others," stated Senator Bonacic. "People who selflessly give to their communities, having to overcome their own challenges, are truly special individuals worthy of our recognition."

Anyone interested in nominating an individual should submit the name of the nominee, a brief biographical sketch (250 words, including a description of the nominees accomplishments) to Senator Bonacic's office at 279 Main Street, Suite 202, New Paltz, New York 12561 or via fax at (845) 255-9262. Nominations must be received by May 12th.
