Senator Flanagan Visits With Adult Home Resident Council

John J. Flanagan

A member of the Senate Committee on Aging, Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently welcomed the opportunity to meet and listen to representatives from area adult homes at a meeting at the Echo Arms Adult Home in Port Jefferson.

The meeting with the Resident Council Leadership Committee, which was arranged by the Family Service League, enabled Senator Flanagan to listen to the concerns of adult home residents in our community.

Senator Flanagan spoke with the resident leaders about the issues they face in their everyday life. As the representatives for their individual adult homes, the members of the Resident Council Leadership Committee are in a position to articulate the concerns and wishes of the adult home they represent.

According to the Family Service League, the Resident Council Leadership Committee began in January of 2005 to give adult home residents a voice. Over that time, the committee has met monthly and has enhanced the collective voice of the residents they represent. The group has created an adult home survey that is being distributed to all residents to identify the important issues facing them.

"The Resident Council Leadership Committee provides a stronger voice to a group of residents who deserve to be heard. I was pleased to meet with them and to hear their ideas and concerns. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with them again in the future," stated Senator Flanagan.
