Serrano's Commencement Address At The Phoenix House

José M. Serrano

Senator Serrano delivered the commencement address at the Phoenix House graduation in Manhattan. The organization provides drug and alcohol treatment services, and helps conduct important academic research on substance abuse. The 130 adults and teens graduating from the program had already completed a year of long-term treatment, and now a post-treatment year of drug-free independent living. The Senator encouraged them to become mentors and role models for younger generations in the fight against substance abuse.

The Senator joined the president of Phoenix House, Dr. Mitch Rosenthal (right), and the vice president and deputy regional director of Phoenix House New York, Jean Scott (left), on stage at the Congregation Rodeph Shalom, where the event was held.
