Nys Budget Makes Suny Brockport Fieldhouse Project A Reality

Joseph E. Robach

Senator Joe Robach, Senator George Maziarz and Senator Jim Alesi today announced that the adopted state budget contains $15 million in aid to assist in the construction of a new student recreation center/multipurpose fieldhouse at SUNY Brockport.

"The new fieldhouse project will enable the Brockport campus to be competitive with other SUNY campuses around the state," said Senator Maziarz, whose district includes Brockport. "The new facility will greatly enhance student life in terms of activities, events, and opportunities for students and the community."

"As a graduate of SUNY Brockport, I am proud to see this project moving forward and to have worked with Senators Maziarz and Alesi to secure this funding to help build this facility," stated Senator Robach. "This new recreation center will be a great asset to the college and will benefit the students, alumni, and the entire community."

"Providing SUNY Brockport with this multi-purpose facility will benefit not only the students, but the entire community," said Senator Alesi. "I congratulate my colleagues on working with me to make this project a reality."

Plans for the new student recreation center/multipurpose fieldhouse include an indoor track, multipurpose area, aerobics room, student lounge, office space, climbing wall, and a large area for concerts and special events.

The total project cost for the new facility is $30 million. SUNY Brockport students have already agreed, by referendum, to raise the remaining $15 million by accepting an increase in their student government fees.
