Senator Marty Golden Secures More Than $40 Million Dollars For Two Brooklyn C.u.n.y Schools

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) is today announcing that the New York State budget approved by the Legislature allocates record levels of funding for both Brooklyn College and Kingsborough Community College. Senator Golden, working with college administration officials and students, spearheaded the efforts on behalf of these two colleges within the City University of New York.

Through the efforts of Senator Golden, Brooklyn College has been awarded $38 million for capital projects to improve The West Quad, Roosevelt Hall and the Performing Arts Center. Kingsborough Community College received more than $5.5 million towards the conversion of a campus building to a learning resource center, as well for the installation of air conditioning and mechanical system upgrades.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "I am so very proud to have been able to deliver this necessary funding for both Brooklyn College and Kingsborough Community College which will allow them to continue to grow here in Brooklyn and provide the best of opportunities for higher education here in Kings County. The students are the winners here today. Higher education in Brooklyn today has been taken to a new level."

Golden continued, "I applaud the efforts of Kingsborough President Dr. Regina Peruggi and Brooklyn College President Christoph M. Kimmich. They are both extraordinary leaders in education and Brooklyn is lucky to have them leading our students towards better futures."

We’re enormously grateful to Senator Golden, whose outstanding support helps Brooklyn College enrich the opportunities it offers its students. His commitment to our borough and to higher education makes all things possible."

Kingsborough Community College President Dr. Regina Peruggi stated, "Kingsborough Community College is indebted to the work of Senator Martin Golden in securing the capital funding to repair and improve the campus facilities at Kingsborough for our students in a variety of program areas. These facility improvements will enable students to receive supports in tutoring and other services that will insure their success in their academic programs."

Senator Marty Golden was among those who worked to preserve and enhance the Tuition Assistance Program by joining his colleagues in the New York State Senate in restoring $83.65 million to the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). Golden also was among those who rejected a proposal to increase the tuition by $500 at S.U.N.Y. State Operated Colleges and $300 for CUNY Senior Colleges by providing additional operating aid and support.
