Senator Nozzolio Announces Exam For Correction Officer Positions

Albany – Praising the work of New York's correction officers as one of the greatest examples of public service, State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio, Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, today announced that the next Correction Officer exam is scheduled for October 27, 2007. The filing deadline for the examination is September 10, 2007. Approved applicants will be informed of where and when their test will take place when they receive their admission notice.

“New York’s correction officers are the backbone of our correctional facilities and the pride of our communities and State,” Senator Nozzolio said. “It has always been my firm belief that New York's dedicated and hardworking correction officers walk the toughest beat in law enforcement and put their personal safety on the line everyday to protect the public, maintain discipline in our correctional facilities, and keep our communities safe. I encourage all interested individuals to apply for the exam and become one of the highly regarded and respected New York State correction officers.”

Correction officers are responsible for the custody and security, as well as the safety and well-being, of criminal offenders in the State Correctional Facilities and Correctional Camps. Starting salary for accepted correction officer trainees is $34,329 per year. After successful completion of the one-year traineeship, ending one year after the employee’s date of initial appointment to the Department’s Training Academy, the salary increases to $41,348 per year.
