Senator Saland And Senator Leibell Announce Additional State Aid For Dutchess County For Property Tax Relief

Senator Steve Saland (R,C Poughkeepsie) and Senator Vincent Leibell (R,C,I Patterson) today announced that the 2006-07 state budget awaiting passage this week includes a $1,164,247 increase of state aid for cities, towns and villages in Dutchess County to help ease the burden of local property taxes. Combined, the proposed additional revenue aid for cities, towns and villages for the county totals $7,081,006.

"Local governments provide services that are critical to the quality of life we enjoy in Dutchess County," said Senator Saland. "I am pleased that we will be able to provide hardworking taxpayers with increases in funding to our local municipalities."

"This year’s budget process has provided us with the real opportunity to address local taxes through an increased revenue stream," said Senator Leibell. "I am pleased to see that by working with my colleagues we are able to provide additional assistance to cities, towns and villages."

The cities of Beacon and Poughkeepsie will each receive an aid increase of more than 19 percent, while villages and towns in Dutchess County will receive an approximate 20 percent increase in local aid.
