Senator Saland Announces Local Winners In Statewide Environmental Contest
Senator Steve Saland (R,C Poughkeepsie) today announced that fourteen local students have won statewide recognition for environmental awareness through the state Senate’s 15th annual "I*MA&GREEN*NATION" competition. The students are from The Deveraux School and St. Peter’s School in Dutchess County.
"I am very proud of all our local winners who competed against students from around the state in this year’s I*MA*GREEN*NATION contest," said Senator Saland. "Their understanding and appreciation for the environmental challenges we face is very impressive and deserves this recognition."
The winners were as follows:
St. Peter’s School
Third Place, Division I, Grades 1-3, Arts & Crafts, Alex Flynn from Michelle Antalek’s Class
The Devereux Foundation
Third Place, Division IV, Special Education, Science and Technology, classes of Phoebe Brown, Frank Bauer, Tere Winch and G. Weigel
First Place, Division IV, Special Education, Literature, classes of Ms. Stagno and Mr. Ford
The statewide contest includes projects from Grades One through Eight comparing students’ presentation of ideas and solutions to the problems of solid waste reduction and encouraging recycling. Entries were judged for imagination, subject matter and creativity.
The fourteen students were honored at a reception and awards ceremony for winners across the state. Their projects will be on public display at the state Capitol through May 11.
