Senator Morahan Announces $ 10 Million Increase In Education Aid To Rockland County School Districts

As a result of his efforts,Senator Thomas P. Morahanproudly announcedthathe has successfully secured from the State Legislature over $10 million dollars more in educational state aid increases to Rockland County school districts, then was originally proposed in the Governor’s education budget. While representing only a portion of Orange County, the Senator was also able to secure over $ 840,000 in additional educational funding for the school districts in communities he represents.

"I am very pleased to have been able convince my colleagues to support additional funding for local school districts," said Morahan.

The budget agreed on by the Legislature includes a record school aid increase of almost $1.3 billion. The budget also includes a plan for $2.6 billion in new school construction funds for schools across NYS. $1.8 billion will go to NY city, $800 million will go to the rest of the State.

The budget also allocates $375 million in sound basic education aid proposed by the Governor for high needs districts throughout the State. The budget increases include :

- $58.1 million increase for BOCES aid

- $91.6 million for building aid

- $20 million in high tax aid

- $67.5 million for teacher support aid

The budget restores funds for Teacher Resource and Computer Centers to $37 million (an increase of $20.6 million); $6 million was restored for the Teacher Mentor Intern program (a $4 million increase).
