(Depew, NY) Senator Dale M. Volker (R-I-C, Depew) today announced the creation of a new Empire Zones for Wyoming county. The New York State Empire Zone program was created to stimulate economic growth through a variety of tax incentives, helping to attract new businesses to New York and enable existing businesses to expand and create more jobs.

"Douglas Berwarger, Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors, and I have worked very hard to ensure that Wyoming County received Empire Zone designation from the State of New York so that Wyoming County can partake in economic development opportunities that could result in the creation and retention of jobs for the community," said Senator Dale M. Volker. "The Empire Zone Program for Wyoming County will ensure that they can participate and be more competitive for new businesses and jobs. It’s important that we do all we can to encourage job creation so our children and grandchildren have the opportunity to enjoy the career of their choice in New York State."

Douglas Berwanger, Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors said, "This is tremendous news for our county, our business community and our residents. Wyoming County has received interest from several companies seeking to relocate to our county, or who wish to expand their operations here. Empire Zone designation will allow these companies the ability to lessen their tax burden, thereby bringing our economic environment more conducive for job creation and retention. I would like to thank Senator Volker for continued support and advocacy in Albany in bringing Empire Zone designation to Wyoming County."

The Empire Zone program was created to stimulate economic growth through a variety of tax incentives, helping to attract new businesses to New York and enable existing businesses to expand and create more jobs. Businesses operating inside a zone are eligible for a range of significant tax benefits tied to job creation and significant investment. Benefits include tax reduction credits, real property tax credits, sales tax exemptions, wage tax credits, and utility rate reductions. The tax benefits can reduce a company's tax liability to as little as zero.

Today, there are over 9,800 certified businesses employing more than 380,000 people in 76 Empire Zones statewide.
