(ALBANY, N.Y.) Senator Dale M. Volker (R-C-I, Depew) announced today that he has secured $125,000 for the State University of New York at Geneseo’s Lockhart Gallery. These state funds will be used by the university to better preserve its art collection.

"The State University of New York at Geneseo continues to be one of the finest university's in the entire nation," said Senator Dale M. Volker. "These are exciting times for SUNY Geneseo and Livingston County and it is my sincere honor to be of assistance in securing state funds to protect, preserve and expand the Lockhart Gallery for all to enjoy."

The Lockhart Gallery opened in 2001 along with the college's alumni office in the McClellan House at 26 Main Street in the village of Geneseo. The Geneseo Foundation, which had assumed responsibility for the college's art collection in 1993, wanted an art gallery that would link the college with the community and make art more accessible to the public.

The Lockhart Gallery has become a cultural center for Geneseo and the surrounding region, mounting works by artists from around the country and the local area, including former Livingston County Court Judge Gerry Alonzo's impressive wood sculpture exhibit.

"President Dahl has been a leading force in making the Lockhart Gallery what it is today, and I continue to appreciate his dedication and commitment to the university and our region," said Senator Volker. "President Dahl and the SUNY Geneseo community share a profound commitment to the arts and education as well as a proven understanding of how to translate such values into activity. I continue to look forward in working with the university as it expands it creative and cultural boundaries throughout our state and nation."
