Fuschillo & Mcdonough Call On Governor To Intervene In Obtaining Pilots For Wantagh School District And Fire District From "trump On The Ocean" Restaurant
State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman David G. McDonough (19th Assembly District) have called on Governor Eliot Spitzer to intervene in helping them obtain Payment In Lieu Of Taxes (PILOTs) for the Wantagh School District and Wantagh Fire District from the "Trump on the Ocean" restaurant at Jones Beach State Park.
Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough asked for the Governor's intervention after first requesting Commissioner Carol Ash of the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation to review and amend the lease between the Parks Department and the Trump Organization to include PILOTs for the Wantagh School District and Wantagh Fire District.
In their correspondence to Commissioner Ash, the two state legislators also included hundreds of letters from Wantagh residents supporting their request. The Commissioner responded to their request several weeks later, but did not provide a direct answer as to whether or not the lease would be amended to include PILOTs.
"The people of Wantagh have asked for this lease to be amended, and their request deserves an answer," said Senator Fuschillo. "If the Commissioner of the State Parks Department does not want to give us an answer, then we are going to go to her boss, the Governor, and ask for his intervention."
Residents who want to join Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough in asking for the Governor's intervention can write to the Governor at the State Capitol, Albany, NY 12224.
