Senator Fuschillo Honors Local Hero Who Aided Survivors At World Trade Center On 9/11
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently visted the home of Wantagh resident Steven Innerfield to honor him for his heoric efforts to aid survivors of the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11.
Mr. Innerfield was working at the World Trade Center on the morning of 9/11 when the first plane hit the Twin Towers. Mr. Innerfield heard over the radio that medical personnel were needed to assist in the rescue efforts. A former Lieutenant in the Long Beach Fire Department, Mr. Innerfield raced to the street, where he set up a triage center to provide medical attention to victims injured during the attacks. When the second tower fell, Mr. Innerfield had to quickly move individuals out of harms way and set up a new triage center, where he continued to provide medical assistance to injured wokers and first responders for several hours.
"Without regard for his own safety, Mr. Innerfield selflessly put himself in harms way to provide medical assistance to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks. His quick thinking and concern for the welfare of others helped countless individuals receive the treatment they needed. It is my pleasure to honor and commend this local hero," said Senator Fuschillo.
