Senator Fuschillo Reminds Nassau County Residents About Their Right To Challenge Their Property Tax Assessment

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is reminding all Nassau County residents who believe that their homes have been over-assessed by the County Assessor’s office that they have the right to challenge their property tax assessment.

"All Nassau County residents have the legal right to challenge their property tax assessments each year," said Senator Fuschillo. "I urge anyone who believes that their home has been over-assessed by the Assessor’s Office to file a grievance application with the County’s Assessment Review Commission."

Individuals who want to challenge their property tax assessment must file an application with the Assessment Review Commission (ARC) before March 1, 2007. ARC is an independent administrative tribunal, separate from the Nassau County Department of Assessment, that provides determinations of taxpayers’ requests for review and reduction of assessments. ARC reduces assessments that it finds overvalued, corrects errors in tax class designations and reviews denials of exemptions; ARC cannot increase assessments.
