Senator Farley Secures Special $350,000 For Gloversville School District
State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) attended the Gloversville Enlarged School District's Board of Education meeting on November 5th and presented the school with a $350,000 ceremonial check that represented special State aid that the Senator obtained for the school.
The funding is to be used to offset costs due to an unexpected number of special education students.
"I am happy that I was able to help Gloversville with this special funding," Senator Farley said, adding the money comes from several streams in the New York State budget appriopriated to fill gaps in school aid formulas. "With this additional grant money, Gloversville taxpayers do not get an extra burden while the students do not get shortchanged."
Earlier this year, Gloversville school officials had proposed a $47 million budget that called for a 2 percent tax increase. The voters defeated the budget but accepted a second proposal that included a zero tax increase plan. Meanwhile, costs for BOCES special education services kept increasing due to an increase in the number of students being served.
