Gov Inks Otsego Tax Bill

Governor Spitzer has signed legislation authorizing Otsego County to issue refunds to taxpayers for the county's overbilling of 2007 property taxes. The legislation was filed by Senator Seward and Assemblyman Magee (senate bill 3415). The senate passed the bill in March and the assembly passed it in May. The governor signed it on May 22.

"The county can now proceed with its plan to issue refunds," Senator Seward said. "The county board requested the special legislation and the county can move forward to address the error in its adoption of the 2007 budget.

"Since the issue was brought to my attention for a state response, I have worked with the county board with the goal of getting results for the taxpayers who paid too much in taxes due to an error," Seward said.
