Seward Announces $250k Hospice Grant

The 2007-2008 state budget includes $250,000 for the capital expansion program of Catskill Hospice and Palliative Care, Senator James L. Seward said today.

"The funding will provide a shot in the arm for Hospice's efforts to update its campus in Oneonta," Seward said. "Thousands of families every year benefit from Hospice's service to patients and their families facing terminal illnesses. And Hospice helps reduce the cost of government services tremendously by providing end-of-life care at home instead of in institutional settings. It's appropriate to support the work of Hospice because of its many benefits."

"We are grateful for your grant which will help us expand our services to meet the needs of out patients and families. The aging population in our three counties is in need of our services and we continue to do everything in our power to meet their needs," said Development Director Huemac Garcia.

According to Hospice officials, the state funding will help pay for computer upgrades, an HVAC system, replacement roofs, rebuilding and resurfacing roads, and improvements to the interior of 542 Main Street.

Hospice is considering a $4 million capital fundraising campaign to support construction of a 15,000 square foot, ten bed hospice residence.

Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care serves Otsego, Delaware and Schoharie Counties.
