Senator Flanagan Secures Funding For School Playground In Lake Grove

John J. Flanagan

Joining with children and parents from Wenonah Elementary School, Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently helped unveil two new playground sets at the school located in Lake Grove. Senator Flanagan worked closely with the Wenonah Children's Playground Committee to secure $50,000 in state funding to offset the cost and installation of the playground equipment. This funding was supplemented by additional funding the group raised through a variety of other fundraising efforts within the school community.

At a well-attended Welcome Back Picnic coordinated by the school's Building Leadership Team, Senator Flanagan joined the school to celebrate the reopening of the renovated play areas and to watch as the children explored their new playsets.

Since the school serves children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade, the Wenonah Children's Playground Committee sought to secure enough funding to cover the cost of two age specific play areas to ensure safe play by all age groups.

The first area is designed for use by children from third through fifth grade and is located in the front of the school. The second playground, which is located in the rear of the school, will be enjoyed by students in kindergarten through second grade.

"This was truly a community effort and I want to thank everyone who joined with us to make this a reality. The committee is especially grateful to Senator Flanagan for working with us and for helping us complete this important project," said Wenonah Children's Playground Committee member Lynda LaRosa. "The students deserve to have a safe and fun environment to exercise and I hope they all enjoy these new play areas."

"I am pleased to assist the committee in bringing these new facilities to the children of this community. Congratulations to everyone who worked so hard to make this a reality for all the kids," stated Senator Flanagan. "Both of these new play areas will make the school day more enjoyable for the students of Wenonah and will greatly enhance the entire community."
