Serrano Applauds New Project Playground In East Harlem

Senator Serrano attended the dedication of the new "Project Playground" at P.S. 72, right around the corner from his district office in East Harlem.

The dull schoolyard blacktop was converted to a colorful, multi-purpose facility featuring a basketball court, running track, baseball diamon and jungle gym.

"New York City is committed to increasing access to parks and playgrounds," said Senator Serrano. "The trick is making these spaces fun and enjoyable, and I think the new facility at P.S. 72 is a wonderful model."

The pharmaceutical firm, Shire, designed and funded the playground in collaboration with celebrity designer Ty Pennington. The host of TV’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was on hand to unveil the playground with local schoolchildren.
