Serrano Celebrates Mexican Independence In East Harlem

Senator Serrano participated once again in the Mexican Independence Day celebration, hosted by CECOMEX. The event drew thousands of residents and tourists to the streets of East Harlem .

“Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have played an increbibly important role in the development of New York ’s culture and economy,” said the Senator, who has emerged as a vocal defender of immigrant rights in the state.

“It is such a pleasure to see the turn-out at today’s event,” he said. “At a time when immigrants face many challenges, and must confront so much intolerance, we must come together to show both our strength and unity.”

The Senator thanked Sandra Perez, executive director of CECOMEX, and her entire staff for their tireless dedication to the community, and for organizing such a wonderful annual event.
