Senator Golden Honors Jenny Hynes For Raising Funds For A.l.s.

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden last week honored Jenny Hynes, a 2006 graduate of Public School 222, in the State Senate Chamber in Albany, with a New York State Legislative Resolution commending her efforts which raised over $650.00 for the A.L.S. Association.

Jenny Hynes lost her father, Michael Hynes, to ALS last June and this past Spring, led a fundraising effort for the ALS Association in his honor and to help find a cure. Working with her teacher, Ms. Trinka who’s mother succumbed to ALS in November, over $650.00 was raised by Jenny through the sale of "Never Give Up" bracelets, paper baseballs and through the raffling off of ALS Association T-Shirts. Senator Golden also honored Jenny’s 8-year old brother, Michael, who was energetic in helping his sister with the sales.

The State Senate Resolution introduced by Senator Marty Golden in part read, "With her sense of compassion and her commitment to others, Jenny Hynes has truly earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of the State of New York, her thoughtful and caring actions are a strong indication of the purpose and promise of her future."

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosisis a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord, and this progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually lead to a person’s death.

When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost, and with voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed, and yet, through it all, for the vast majority of people, their minds remain unaffected.
