Nozzolio Announces $20,000 Grant For Village Of Port Byron

Auburn—State Senator Michael Nozzolio announced today that the Village of Port Byron is the recipient of a $20,000 grant to help facilitate several energy-efficiency projects at the Municipal Building, the Department of Public Works, the Fire House and the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

“All of the buildings and plants will undergo retrofitted lighting improvements that will save the Village 25 percent a year in electric bills,” Senator Nozzolio said. “In addition, the Fire House will get a new hot water boiler, the municipal building and the waste water treatment plant will have programmable thermostats installed and the Department of Public Works will get a new unit heater.”

The combined savings in energy expenses from these improvements exceed $3,000 a year -- savings which are cumulative over the life of the equipment. The installed costs are estimated to be $20,800, which is largely offset by the $20,000 grant.

The grant was provided from Petroleum Overcharge Restitution (POCR) funds, established from proceeds of court settlements relating to major oil company violations of federal price controls in the 1970’s and 1980’s. NYPA administers the funds in New York State.
