Auburn—State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio honored the members of the Auburn Maroons football team for their victory in the 2006 Class AA State Championship in a visit to the State Capitol. Senator Nozzolio, along with Senator David Valesky and Assemblyman Gary Finch, held a private luncheon for the team, who observed the State Senate during its legislative session and toured the State Capitol.
"The Auburn Maroons have proven that they are the best football team in New York State by winning the Class AA State Championship game,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The entire team, along with head coach Dave Moskov and the assistant coaches are to be commended for the leadership, hard work, perseverance and commitment they have demonstrated in reaching this significant goal. These players are truly a credit to the Auburn community."
Senator Nozzolio attended the Auburn High School football banquet in December to honor the Maroons football team for their victory over the Monroe-Woodbury Crusaders in the championship game. The team was joined in Albany by Head Coach Dave Moskov and assistant coaches, High School principal David Roth, School Superintendent John Plume, Athletic Director Tamela Ray, Michael Stearns, President of the Board of Education, and other school staff members.
The guests attended a luncheon in their honor hosted by Senator Nozzolio, Senator Valesky and Assemblyman Finch. The students also attended the State Senate's legislative session, where a special resolution was adopted honoring their victory in the State championship.
Auburn High Head Football Coach Dave Moskov said, "We are very appreciative of Senator Nozzolio’s efforts to honor our team and we thank him for what has been a great day for us all. This past season was truly a great experience for the players, their families and the Auburn community and our visit to Albany has added to the excitement."
State Senator David Valesky (D-Oneida) said, “The Maroons overcame tough odds to become State Champions. I am pleased to have the opportunity to salute their determination, discipline and victory here in Albany.”
Assemblyman Gary Finch said, “It is an honor to join my colleagues Senator Nozzolio and Senator Valesky in hosting the Auburn Football Team at the Capitol. I congratulate the players and coaches and thank Head Coach Dave Moskov and his very able staff -- not only have they built an excellent football team but, more importantly, they have instilled character and values that will stay with these young men forever."
Auburn High School principal David Roth said, "This is a great opportunity not just to honor the football team for their victory in the State championship but also to give them the opportunity to visit and tour the State Capitol and provide them with a valuable learning experience."
"It is truly a pleasure for me to help honor the achievements of my constituents, particularly those of our youth. The Auburn football team has made its family, friends, community and State proud and I am pleased to pay tribute to the team's remarkable accomplishments," Nozzolio concluded.
