Nozzolio Reappointed Chairman Of The Senate Crime Victims, Crime And Correction Committee
Albany—State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio has been reappointed Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee for the 2007-2008 Legislative Session. Senator Nozzolio was also appointed to the Senate Judiciary Committee and remained on the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the State budget.
“It is an honor for me to be given the opportunity to continue to serve as Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to further improve our State’s correctional system, support our brave corrections officers, and enhance workplace safety for the dedicated men and women who work in our correctional facilities.”
“I am also extremely pleased to serve on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which has the important responsibility of reviewing all State judges nominated by the Governor,” continued Senator Nozzolio. “I look forward to reviewing the recent nomination of Theodore Jones, Jr. to the New York State Court of Appeals, as well as all future nominations that come before the committee.”
Senator Nozzolio has been a staunch and outspoken proponent of criminal justice reform and victims' rights throughout his tenure. His accomplishments as Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Chairman include the passage of tougher sentencing guidelines for violent criminals, an end to work release for dangerous felons, the passage of Megan's Law, the Sex Offender Reform Act, the Domestic Violence Prevention and Family Protection Act and Jenna's Law. In addition, Senator Nozzolio was instrumental in the establishment of the revolutionary Willard Drug Treatment Campus and the opening of a 750 cell maximum security prison at the former Seneca Army Depot.
Senator Nozzolio has been honored for his commitment to bettering the State's criminal justice system and correctional system and was named Legislator of the Year by the New York State Parole Officers Association. He has been Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction committee since 1995.
Senator Nozzolio also holds the position of Commander in the Naval Militia and serves as a member on the Senate Majority Task Force on World Trade Center Recovery.
