Nozzolio Secures $20,000 In Funding For Operation: Safe Child In Seneca County

Michael F. Nozzolio

Seneca Falls – Continuing his aggressive efforts to support local law enforcement agencies in combating crime, State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio, Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, today announced that he has secured $20,000 in state funding for the start up of Operation: SAFE CHILD in Seneca County.

"Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our children,” said Senator Nozzolio. “It was a pleasure to secure this funding to help protect our children and ensure the safety of our streets and neighborhoods”.

The funding will allow the Seneca Falls and Waterloo Police Departments to participate in the Operation Safe Child program. Operation Safe Child was initiated in 2005 to provide parents with a color ID card containing a digital photograph and fingerprint of their child. The ID card allows parents to have exact information on their child, such as height and weight, if the child was to go missing. This information is crucial for law enforcement agencies when filing a Missing Child report or sending an Amber alert to the media.

The funding will provide for training, software, and a Public Relations packet for event advertising. The police departments will now be able to offer the program to all area children through both school and public events.

"As Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee, protecting our children is my top priority. Our communities are only as strong as those who serve and protect them and I commend our law enforcement officers for their continued commitment to preventing crime and making our communities and State better places in which to live, work and raise a family," Nozzolio concluded.
