Nozzolio: State Budget Contains An Additional $16 Million For Consolidated Local Street And Highway Improvement Program

Albany- New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio, Chairman of the Senate Transportation Budget Conference Committee, today announced that an additional $16 million will be included in the 2007-2008 State budget to fund the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS). This additional funding will increase the total State commitment for CHIPS to $312.5 million.

“A well-funded, well-maintained transportation infrastructure is critical for economic growth and job creation in New York State,” said Senator Nozzolio. “As Chairman of the Senate Transportation Budget Conference Committee, it was a pleasure to fight for this additional funding in the State budget to help maintain the roads, highways, and bridges in Upstate New York.”

The Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) provides State funds to municipalities to support the construction and repair of highways, bridges, highway-railroad crossings, and other facilities that are not on the State highway system.

“It is essential that we continue to make necessary investments in New York’s transportation network. This significant funding will help ensure the safety of our drivers and expand and enhance economic development in our State,” concluded Senator Nozzolio.
