Senator Nozzolio Announces $25,000 To Protect Sodus Bay Watershed

Sodus Bay— Citing the importance of preserving the water quality in the Sodus Bay Watershed and ensuring clean, safe water for residents, State Senator Michael Nozzolio today announced that he has secured an $25,000 State grant to help protect and preserve water quality in the Sodus Bay Watershed.

“Sodus Bay is an environmental jewel,” said Senator Nozzolio. “It is one of the most treasured and beautiful natural resources in the Finger Lakes region, and a popular tourist attraction for visitors. We must do everything possible to preserve and protect the Sodus Bay Watershed and ensure clean, safe water for residents. This grant will assist with weed control in the Sodus Bay Watershed and help to protect the local environment.”

“Preserving and protecting the beauty and purity of the Sodus Bay Watershed will benefit local residents, businesses, farmers, boaters, sportsmen, vacationers, and all those who visit and live along the Sodus Bay Watershed. By investing in the preservation of the Sodus Bay Watershed, we are investing in the Wayne County economy and in the future of our communities. All the members of Save our Sodus are to be commended for their interest, concern, hard work and advocacy in protecting water quality in the Sodus Bay Watershed,” Nozzolio added.

Save Our Sodus, Inc. is a non-profit organization created to help improve, protect and preserve the quality of water in the Sodus Bay Watershed. Its members include local residents, vacationers, property owners, businesses, farmers, boaters, sportsmen and others.

Senator Nozzolio previously secured an $80,000 State grant to purchase a weed harvester as well as additional funding to help protect the Sodus Bay Watershed and support the Finger Lakes/Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance.

The Sodus Bay Watershed is over 46 square miles and includes the towns of Sodus, Lyons, Galen, Huron and Rose, and the village of Sodus Point.
