Senator Nozzolio Announces $76,000 Energy Efficiency Grant For Currier Plastics In Auburn
Auburn – State Senator Michael Nozzolio announced today that the Currier Plastics Company in Auburn is the recipient of a $76,000 State grant to make their facilities more energy efficient. The funding, administered through the New York State Power Authority, will allow the company to upgrade their existing lighting with new energy efficient lighting.
“Currier Plastics has long set the standard for service and quality in the molding industry and is an important component of our regional economy,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The revitalization of Upstate New York relies on the success of our local businesses and this energy efficiency project will help the company conserve energy and reduce costs.”
Currier Plastics employs approximately 100 local residents and supports other business and industries in the Auburn area. The company’s primary facility is a 39,000 square foot building which operates 24 hours a day. An engineering study identified a need to modernize the building’s lighting at a cost of $76,500, saving the company $32,193 a year in electric bills. The grant will cover nearly the entire cost of the project.
The grant was provided from Petroleum Overcharge Restitution (POCR) funds, established from proceeds of court settlements relating to major oil company violations of federal price controls in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The New York Power Authority administers the funds in New York State.
