Senator Nozzolio Announces Improvements At Casey Park In Auburn

Michael F. Nozzolio

Auburn— Stressing the importance of providing recreational opportunities for Auburn’s youths and residents, New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio today announced a list of improvements to be made at Casey Park. The improvements will be paid for through a $200,000 state grant that Senator Nozzolio secured for the City of Auburn in March.

Senator Nozzolio delivered the funding in March to reline Casey Park pool, allowing the pool to re-open for the summer. The pool repairs were completed under budget, allowing for the additional funding to be used for today’s announced improvements.

“This past Spring, I fought to provide the necessary funding so that Casey Park pool could be re-opened, allowing our youths to stay active during the summer months,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I am extremely pleased that the pool repairs were done under budget, allowing us to provide additional funding for other necessary repairs in the pool area and around Casey Park. Once completed, these improvements will make Casey Park an even better place for Auburn’s children and families to enjoy.”

In addition to the relining of Casey Park pool that has been completed, the $200,000 state grant will be used to replace the pool fence, the pool site light pole, and the concrete around the pool area; as well as update the eating area, restroom, and locker room, repair the concrete pool steps, provide new benches and allow for miscellaneous painting that is needed around Casey Park. The additional funding will also be used to replace the lighting on the softball field.

Senator Nozzolio has been committed to improving Casey Park and has advised of the importance of providing recreational opportunities to keep children active to allow them to avoid the pitfalls of taking drugs and crime.

“As State Senator, keeping our streets safe is one of my top priorities,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Providing healthy activities for our children go a long way to help keep our kids and our entire community safe. Casey Park provides recreational opportunities for kids and allows them to resist the temptation of delinquency.”

Auburn Mayor Timothy Lattimore said, “Senator Nozzolio’s grant to improve Casey Park is sorely needed. In order to have children that are well adjusted-mentally, physically, and spiritually- we need to provide recreational opportunities and Casey Park provides hockey, lacrosse, baseball, and swimming for our children. With the Senator’s help, we will now be able to upgrade this important recreational facility for the Auburn community.”

Auburn City Councilor William Graney said, “This funding will allow us to make some significant improvements to Casey Park for our residents. Casey Park is an important asset for our community, and I applaud Senator Nozzolio for his continued support and for securing this state funding to enhance Casey Park.”

Cayuga County Legislator Peter Tortorici said, “Because of this significant state grant, we will now be able to make some much needed improvements to Casey Park. Casey Park is an important component for the City of Auburn and I thank Senator Nozzolio for his hard work on our behalf.”
