Senator Nozzolio Delivers $100,000 For Renovation Of The Edith B. Ford Memorial Library In Ovid

Ovid- Calling our local libraries the window to the world, State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio announced that he has secured a $100,000 State grant for renovation of the Edith B. Ford Memorial Library in Ovid. Senator Nozzolio made the announcement at the library, located at 7169 North Main Street in Ovid.

“Our libraries provide countless opportunities for everyone in the community, from our children and families to our adults and senior citizens,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Libraries have always held a special meaning to me and I can still remember the first book I checked out from my local library as a child. It was a pleasure for me to be able to secure this State grant to support the Ovid library.”

The Edith B. Ford Memorial Library is an association library housed in a two-level building completed in 1961. The state funding will help double the library’s existing floor space by opening up the lower level of the library. Other planned improvements include adding four new computers, updating their media technology, expanding their book collection, creating a more open reading area, adding a lift for handicap accessibility, expanding the parking lot, adding air conditioning, and replacing the roof.

The library was originally chartered to serve the population of the Village of Ovid. Presently, however, the library serves a much wider area including the Town of Ovid, the Town of Romulus, as well as outlying areas.

“There is no greater resource in our communities than the local library. We must continue to support our libraries in order to ensure that our children and future generations have the opportunity to learn and grow, make new discoveries, and achieve their greatest hopes and dreams,” Nozzolio concluded.
