Senator Steve Saland And Assemblyman Marc Molinaro Announce Passage Of Bill To Honor Local Veterans
Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) and Assemblyman Marc Molinaro (R,I,C Tivoli) have announced Senate and Assembly passage of a bill (S.5958/A.8803) to designate Route 9-H in Columbia County as the Columbia County Veterans' Memorial Highway.
"From the veterans of World Wars I and II who fought in Europe and the Pacific to those who fought in Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq and the many other conflicts where they placed their lives on the line, we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to these fine men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom," said Senator Saland. "Renaming this highway is a way for us to honor their service. The new highway signage naming Route 9H the Columbia County Veterans' Memorial Highway will show our appreciation and be a daily reminder for travelers that the veterans of Columbia County served proudly in our armed forces," Saland continued.
"We can never fully repay America's heroes for their sacrifice. The Columbia County Veterans' Memorial Highway will stand as a simple expression of our unyielding gratitude to those who have and continue to sacrifice in America's service," said Assemblyman Marc Molinaro.
"Because of the passage of this bill designating Rt. 9H as the Columbia County Veterans’ Memorial Highway, Columbia County will now join other localities throughout the country in honoring veterans of our armed services. On behalf of the veterans of Columbia County, I wish to thank Senator Saland and Assemblyman Molinaro for their work in getting this bill passed. I also wish to thank Everett Wachtel of the Korean War Veterans Association, Columbia County Chapter 283, for making me aware of the lack of a veterans memorial highway in Columbia County," said John Neary, Commander, Korean War Veterans Association, Columbia County Chapter 283.
The bill has been sent to the Governor for his signature.
