Senator Morahan Delivers Opening Remarks For Second Annual County-wide Symposium On Autism

Senator Thomas P. Morahan, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities gave the opening remarks toscores ofeducators, parents, lawmakers, pediatricians, psychologists and service providers, who work with people with mental retardation, at the Second Annual County-Wide Symposium on Autism, which was held on October 17, 2007 at the Holiday in Suffern.

Over 500 people attended the symposium, whichfeatured such speakers as Fred Volkmar of Yale University's Autism Program and a nationally recognized professional in the study and treatment of autism, and Raul Silva of New York University's Child Psychiatry Program and executive director of Rockland Children's Psychiatric Center.

The Senator was introduced by Rockland County Legislator John Murphy, who serves as president of Camp Venture, a Rockland County nonprofit agency that provides services to inidviduals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities.
