Senator Fuschillo and LIPA each secured $125,000 for the project.

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently announced $125,000 in state funding to help lower energy costs for the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) will also be providing $125,000 in matching funds and services, bringing a combined total of $250,000 to the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.

The state funding secured by Senator Fuschillo will be used to install solar energy technology at Kennedy High School. LIPA will provide the district with a rebate in accordance with its Solar Pioneer Program, along with a 20kW solar photovoltaic system and educational materials on the photovoltaic system and technology for use in the High School. Since solar power is a clean, renewable energy source, it will provide power for the school without the need for oil.

“The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District is being forced to spend more money to heat and power their buildings due to skyrocketing energy prices. By using solar energy, which is a clean and renewable energy source, the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will be able to reduce its energy costs and save money for taxpayers in the Bellmores and Merricks,” said Senator Fuschillo.

“LIPA is proud to be working with Senator Fuschillo, one of the state’s leading proponents for energy conservation,” said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law. “LIPA remains committed to working with government officials and schools to relay the vital message of clean and efficient energy.”

“On behalf of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, I would like to thank Senator Fuschillo and LIPA for securing this funding for new solar technology. As energy costs continue to rise, so does the amount of money we are forced to spend on operating our buildings. Using this new technology will help save taxpayers money by lowering our energy expenses,” said Dr. Henry Kiernan, Superintendent of the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
