State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) today announced that two new community improvements projects in Merrick will soon be taking place. Senator Fuschillo secured $250,000 in state funding for the Town of Hempstead to make the improvements.
“Continued streetscape improvement projects such as these will help beautify the community for Merrick residents and build upon the work we began several years ago in the downtown area,” said Senator Fuschillo.
The first streetscape improvement project will be along Benson Avenue and Kees Street, just north of the Merrick Train Station. The second project will take place near the intersection of Smith Street and Babylon Turnpike. Decorative lighting, brick pavers, new trees and tree grates will be installed at both locations.
According to the Town, construction on the Smith Street & Babylon Turnpike improvements is expected to begin by the end of this year. Construction on the Benson Avenue & Kees Street improvements is expected to begin next spring."
