Senator Skelos Secures $36,000 For Baldwin Union Free School District
State Senate Leader Dean G. Skelos (9th Senate District) recently announced that he has secured $36,000 in state funding for the Baldwin Union Free School District.
The funds will be used to help the district establish collections of non-fiction literature and create Literacy Rooms in each of the elementary schools. “Investing in our children is investing in our future,” said Senator Skelos. “The Literacy Rooms in the Baldwin Elementary Schools will enhance our children’s education and give them the opportunity to explore and enjoy literature.”
Superintendent of Schools, Dr. James Mapes said, “The Baldwin School District is most appreciative of the efforts of Senator Skelos in securing this grant to purchase non-fiction literature for our elementary literacy rooms. These leveled-reading materials will enhance the effectiveness of the literacy rooms by enabling students to apply reading strategies to many different genres. Thank you Senator Skelos for funding this important reading initiative in the Baldwin schools.”
