Senator Skelos Secures Funds For The Fight Against Breast Cancer
Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos (9th Senate District) recently announced that he secured $25,000 for 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition. This grant will help fund the Coalition’s "Women In Need of Support" (WINS) Program.
1 in 9 strives to fight the cancer epidemic through education, outreach, environmental advocacy, spearheading changes to legislation affecting cancer issues, and continuously raising money to support innovative epidemiological cancer research projects at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory.
"1 in 9 has helped many women throughout the years struggling with breast cancer through education and support," said Senator Skelos. "I am pleased to have been able to obtain these funds so that women in need will have a safe and understanding place to turn to."

The WINS program provides state of the art information and updates on women's cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment options. In addition, the program assists in securing appointments and referrals, regularly scheduled classes and support groups. The WINS program includes the Breast Cancer Support Group, Recurrence Support Group and Discussion Group.
