Dr. Debra Karnasiewicz Named New York State Senate Woman Of Distinction

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today that Dr. Debra Karnasiewicz of Woodstock in Ulster County has been chosen to be this year’s New York State Senator Woman of Distinction. Dr. Karnasiewicz will be in Albany today to accept the honor at the 11th Annual Senate Woman of Distinction Celebration. The Woman of Distinction Program was created as part of the Senate's Celebration of Women’s History Month.

Senator Bonacic said that the State Senate’s Woman of Distinction is a special honor bestowed upon women, whose lives, work, or special accomplishments contribute to making our communities better, making our families stronger, and serve as special examples to others. The program provides a unique opportunity to honor these women for their achievements and to thank them for the special pride they bring to our communities.

"Dr. Karnasiewicz has dedicated her time and abilities to making a difference in the quality of life of women by underscoring their unique health care needs and assisting women in accessing those services," stated Senator Bonacic. "She is an inspiration to all of us."

Debra received her Medical Degree from the University of Connecticut and completed her residency in internal medicine at Hartford Hospital. She is licensed to practice in New York and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. She began practicing in Kingston in 1984 and is attending staff at both Benedictine and Kingston Hospital where she is Director of Women’s Health Services.

A crusader to raise women’s awareness of their health and well-being, Dr. Karnasiewicz conceived the idea of a Women’s Heath and Fitness Expo and became its director, holding the first in 2000. Now in its 8th year, the Expo brings together top medical experts from a variety of specialties to privately answer health related questions, features several demonstrations, lectures, and wellness screenings, and is attended by thousands of women.

"Clearly, Dr. Karnasiewicz serves as a special example to us as she is someone who works tireless for others. She deserves to be appreciated and recognized for all that she does for the communities in Ulster County. It is an honor for me to present this award to her," said Senator Bonacic.
